One month ago, Chelsie Robinson was in a hospital on life support. On Tuesday, she was in court, watching Maris Chandler learn he would go to trial.

Chandler is accused of striking Robinson with his car on Pit Gas Road in front of Ozy's Bar in Jefferson Township, Greene County last month.

"He left her for dead. He knows it, and we know it," said Talara Robinson, Chelsie’s mom.

Chandler’s attorney Blaine Jones said his client was actually a victim, who feared for his life.

“He was terrified. Would you be terrified if an angry mob were coming after you, yelling racial derogatory names? And, he was just trying to leave. He was so afraid, he left his friend,” said Jones.

During Tuesday’s hearing, several witnesses said that Chandler was arguing outside with a group of people. They said they didn’t hear racial attacks.

“Nothing like that said,” said witness Cheryl Lancaster.

Robinson’s mom said her daughter has a long road to recovery.

“Chelsie can’t walk. She has to have help going to the bathroom every single day of her life,” said Talara Robinson.
